Impact of winding parameters on the fiber bandwidth in the cylindrical area of a hydrogen pressure vessel for generating a digital twin

Abstract The wet winding process is an established manufacturing technology for the production of rotationally symmetrical components made fiber‐reinforced plastic (FRP), such as type‐IV hydrogen pressure vessels. In this process, FRP laminate produced by continuously depositing impregnated fiber band on core in a pattern adapted to component stress. Despite long history there are shortcomings understanding without which further optimization terms cost and material efficiency will reach its limits future. Currently, assumed have constant rectangular cross‐section most simulations, neglects influences spreading. investigations carried out aim extend realistic description bandwidth when deposited core. show that spreading, well absolute bandwidth, depend resin loading tension, independent cylindrical area vessel shaped addition, changes 15%–20% during circumferential winding, depending machine movement.
